Iridology and Preventive medicine.

There are many methods which can help predict the probability of an illness, at times many years before it actually appears and long before detectable pathological changes occur. These methods allow the initiation of preventive measures before the illness occurs and so prevent the illness.

One of the most useful of these methods is iridology, which is the science of examining the iris to obtain information about the patient's health. The iris is the coloured [brown, blue etc.] circular portion of the eye which lies between the white of the eye and the black pupil in the centre. The left iris reflects conditions on the left side of the body, the stress and factors influencing the left side of the brain which deals with our everyday work. It also yields information about the equilibrium of the individual and how he would respond in interpersonal relationships and in times of crisis. The right iris gives information about the right side of the body, it reflects the personal and emotional life of the individual and the functioning of the artistic, creative and intuitive parts of the brain.

The iris gives information about the vitality and condition of every part of our body and to an expert, the eyes truly mirror the health of body and mind reflecting the changes occurring in each organ. The progress of the patient can be monitored through changes in the iris, through which a skilled iridologist can obtain a wealth of information. It allows him to evaluate the changes occurring in the body and reassess his line of treatment if necessary. An expert iridologist can obtain information from the iris about the patient's mental state, self confidence, speech, coordination, sex drive, biological functions and levels of stress. The upper part of the iris gives information about the functioning of the brain including the emotional and psychological state of the individual. The other organs are represented in specific areas around the iris in a well defined circular sequence with the legs at the bottom.

Iridology is an ancient science of diagnosis which originated in India many thousands of years ago. It was practiced extensively in ancient India, and known as netra Pariksha but over the years its popularity declined. This was partly because traditional iridology was carried out at sunrise in the light of the rising sun along with pulse diagnosis and so it was not possible to examine a large number of patients.

It was rediscovered in the West by a German physician called Phillipus Van Meyens in the 17th century. He too discovered that every segment of the iris reflected the health of a particular part of the body. Shakespeare immortalised the diagnostic value of the eye in his oft quoted quotation "The eyes are the mirror of the soul". The eyes do in reality, mirror the state of health of our body, mind and psyche. Through the iris an expert iridologist can obtain information about the present, past and future illnesses.

The iris can be subdivided into six concentric zones. The stomach is represented in the centre zone of the iris with the other organs arranged around it concentrically. The surrounding zones represent the intestines, the internal organs, the muscles and bones, the circulatory system and the skin. The iris gives information about the vitality of each of these areas, thus allowing the iridologist to predict weak areas in the body where problems may occur in subsequent years.

Accurate diagnosis is possible to predict many diseases which an individual is likely to suffer from in future and to initiate preventive measures. This is useful, because by being able to diagnose weak areas the iridologist can advise the patient how to look after himself and so prevent those illnesses from occurring. He is able to advise measures to strengthen weak organs and thus prevent potential illnesses. This advice may be in the form of changes in diet, nutritional supplementation, exercise and lifestyle.

Iridology can provide very accurate and precise information about the state of health of many of our organs and the effect of food and diet on our health. The iris gives information about inherited weaknesses, weak areas, the effect of diet on each individual, food allergies, the effects of various toxins and poisons. Through this the iridologist is able to advise the patient which foods are appropriate for him. By suitable modifications of the diet the person can be helped to get well and rebuild his health.

The precision of diagnosis through Iridology may help save the patient many thousand of dollars in unnecessary investigation and treatment. A few months ago I saw a child who had epilepsy. His appetite was poor, his skin was blotchy, he was listless, anti-social, and generally in poor health. The child had been extensively investigated by a neurologist with electroencephalograms, CT and MRI scans, and a whole range of other investigations. He had been taken to consult many specialists who unfortunately had been unable to diagnose the cause of his problem.

I examined his iris and found the child had a strong allergy to milk and animal protein. I advice that the child should stop milk and be placed on strictly vegetarian diet. Within a week his appetite, skin and general state of his health had improved. He was treated with cranio sacral therapy, in less than a month his convulsions had stopped and within three months he did not need any medication. He started to gain weight, his behavior which was antisocial improved substantially and he was doing well in school at the time of his last consultation. This is a simple example of one of the many conditions where Iridology was able to help make correct diagnosis and so recommend the correct treatment for that child.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a common ailment for which, in most people no obvious cause can be found by conventional investigations, so it is labeled as "Essential hypertension" and treated symptomatically life long. Hypertension has many causes which include an excess intake or accumulation of salt in the arteries, imbalance in the levels of the adrenal, kidney, or pituitary hormones,Stress, imbalance in the hormones (neuro transmitters, a problem in the brain stem (medulla), by the effect of oestrogens and similar chemicals in foods like meat and poultry, smoking, obesity, by kidney damage or by a reduced blood flow to the kidneys.

Conventional investigations to detect these problems can be risky and expensive. An iridologist can often safely determine the cause of hypertension by examining the iris within a few minutes. This saves the patient from being subjected to unnecessary, dangerous and expensive investigations and allows them to be treated rationally, as the cause of their hypertension is known. More importantly it is possible to predict many years in advance which patients will get hypertension and so initiate preventive measures at an early age.

Iridology even though it has been around for many thousands of years does not have many adherents. It is an esoteric form of medicine as barely a handful of people worldwide have adequate expertise in this exact but difficult method of diagnosis. In the years to come I do expect that more people will acquire expertise in this field. The result of an Iridology analyses is greatly dependent on the skill, expertise and experience of the Iridologist. An expert Iridologist can obtain a phenomenal amount of information from the iris, while a lay person may not get much information and at times incorrect or inappropriate information from the eyes. There are only a few specialists in the world with expertise in this difficult but very accurate form of diagnosis.

Advanced means of diagnosis and assessment like Iridology are capable of predicting how a person will react under different conditions as well as whether his constitution and health are capable of undertaking long hours of high stress work. High quality corporate assessment services have been using iridological assessment to screen potential recruits for senior posts at the level of Vice Presidents and above. As a result they have saved considerable sums of money by being able to place the right person in the right job.

Iridological analysis is an investment in their future for anyone who cares about their health and is one means of diagnosis which gives real meaning to the axiom that "Prevention of illness is easier, better and cheaper than curing it after the illness has occurred." They also help and to strengthen the body so that it remains well and healthy. Good health allows an individual to withstand any illness and so realise his full potential.

A usual Iridological examination takes between one to two hours and is conducted with a strong light and a magnifying lens. This usually suffices for most patients as it covers the high lights of their health but occasionally a very detailed analysis can take several hours.
